MassCoMedia conducted the first Teachers' Training Programme at Noida with cooperation from CBSE, from 07 to 11 April 2014. This is the first such activity after the signing of the MOU between CBSE and MassCoMedia to promote the conducted of classes 11 and 12. A total of 23 teachers from schools across the country attended the program which included a mix of theory and practical classes on various media topics. The programme was well taken, and more such events are now being planned.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has jointly started with MasscoMedia the promotion of ‘Mass Media Studies’ as a subject for the 11th & 12th grade. Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Director (Academic, Research, Training and Innovation) of CBSE has taken a firm step for evaluation and promotion of this subject. This subject was introduced 3 years back in schools all over India and was taken up by 25 schools in and around Delhi. Now that media has a pivotal role in the progress of democracy, it shall be more attractive to students to opt for this subject as they can study it at university level as well. Delhi University, PTU, SMU, CCS University and many other top universities in India offer mass communication in graduation as well as at masters level. Delhi University also run short-term programmes in various media-related subjects.
CBSE, will undertake the teachers training programme with school teachers participating from any school, starting from 11th to 17th April 2014. This programme will be held at MasscoMedia, Noida and will be a six-day workshop encompassing 10 different topics for the 11th & 12th syllabus. MasscoMedia, Noida established in 2007, is the official partner with CBSE to conduct teachers training programme, students workshop and a specially designed film competition targeted to the creativity of school students. Earlier MasscoMedia had hosted about five student workshops in its TV studios to provide practical experience to the students.
CBSE will also announce a film competition pan-India for the school students with cash prizes. In the effort to make this subject popular CBSE & MasscoMedia are also working out a joint nationwide initiative with students as well as the schools. School principals are being contacted to introduce MasscoMedia as subject for discerning students who may foray into media as a carrier.
About educating the masses with practicals at school level, MasscoMedia was founded in 2007 to look after the needs of budding media students and the emerging market for media professionals. As of now, there are over 500 channels which are live-to-air in all Indian languages.
MasscoMedia conducts courses in degree, diploma for UG & PG students in mass media television broadcasting and special journalism. Over 2,500 students since 2007 have been introduced in the media industry after having education in MasscoMedia. The education facility is ladden with two television studio, radio studio, editing suites and classrooms for 400+ students.
In the last 2 years, 12 short films by MasscoMedia students have won over 54 awards. Overall students of MasscoMedia have done 400+ short films.
In alliance with Delhi University, school of mass learning, Keshav Puram Complex, MasscoMedia has been running short term vocational courses in media with each batch of 100+ students. Since last 3 years every year there are two batches. The students work on four live projects at the campus including in soon to be launch IPTV channel.
The MOU with CBSE is a bold step in taking media education to the grass-roots. With this initiative media education will finally arrive to the school students along with practical experience at a very low cost.
